Spanish-Speaking AI Receptionist for US Businesses
By Frontly
A Spanish-speaking AI receptionist answers your business line in Spanish or English, whichever the caller speaks, around the clock. Frontly answers the routine calls itself, books appointments, takes messages and records everything in your dashboard, then hands the calls that need a person to your team. For a business that cannot find, or afford, enough staff who are fluent in both languages, it closes the gap without a second hire.

Why is a bilingual front desk so hard to staff?
The demand is real. Nearly 68 million people in the United States speak a language other than English at home, and Spanish is by far the most common, spoken by 62% of them.
Staffing for it is the hard part:
- Fluency narrows the pool. A receptionist who is confident in both languages, well enough to take a medical history or a legal inquiry correctly, is a much smaller pool than a receptionist.
- One hire does not cover the hours. Spanish-speaking callers phone at lunch, after 5pm and on weekends, the same as everyone else. One bilingual employee covers one shift.
- Bilingual staff get pulled in every direction. When the one person who speaks Spanish is on another call, with a patient or on leave, the Spanish-speaking caller waits, leaves a message, or calls someone else.
What does a Spanish-speaking AI receptionist do on a call?
The same job as your best receptionist, in the caller's language:
- Answers questions about your services, hours, location and policies, from your own information.
- Books, reschedules and cancels appointments during the call.
- Takes detailed messages and captures the caller's details.
- Records every call in your Frontly dashboard with a transcript and an outcome, so nothing is lost in translation between shifts.
You choose how language is handled, agent by agent. In adaptive mode, Frontly hears the caller's language and answers in it, with no menu to press. If the caller switches language partway through, Frontly follows. Or run a dedicated Spanish line, where every call is answered in Spanish from the first word. The full detail is on the voices and languages page.
How does it work alongside your bilingual staff?
It backs them up rather than replacing them. Frontly takes the volume: the routine questions, the bookings, the overflow when every line is busy, and the calls that come in after hours. Your bilingual staff take the conversations that genuinely need a person.
When a Spanish-speaking caller does need someone, Frontly transfers the call to the right person and briefs them before it steps out, so the caller never has to start again. It can even check first whether that person is free, with a quick message in Microsoft Teams or Slack. How handover to a human works covers the details.
Where does Spanish-language phone coverage matter most?
Anywhere a missed or misunderstood call costs a customer. A few examples:
Home services and trades. An emergency call about a burst pipe at 10pm is answered in Spanish, the job details are captured, and the right technician is notified.
Dental and medical practices. Patients book, reschedule and ask about their appointment in the language they are most comfortable in, which means fewer no-shows and fewer details lost.
Law firms. New inquiries are taken in Spanish with the caller's details and the type of matter, then passed to an attorney for the consultation. Frontly handles the intake, never the legal advice.
Property management. Residents report a maintenance problem in their own words, so the right trade is sent the first time.
How do you set it up?
Three choices, not a project: pick a voice, choose the language mode, and decide which calls should reach your team. Forward your existing number to Frontly, and a standard setup is live in about an hour, with the Frontly team building the call flow with you. If your business serves callers in other languages too, Frontly covers more than 40, from Mandarin to Vietnamese, as explained in multilingual AI phone agents.
The quickest way to judge it is to hear it. Hear Sofia switch from English to Spanish, or place a free test call and try it yourself.
